Surviving the Summer Heat

Summer is a fun time for children and adults alike, but sometimes summer temperatures can be dangerous to your health if you do not take the necessary precautions to protect your body against heat-related illnesses. To stay cool when it’s hot:

 -  Drink plenty of water before you feel thirsty. If you start to feel parched, it means that you are on well on your way to becoming dehydrated. Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily to stay hydrated.

 -  Wear lightweight clothing made of natural fabrics and a well-ventilated hat.

 -  Do activities outside in the early morning and in the evening when temperatures are cooler and the sun is not beating down.

 -  Eat lighter, cold meals as opposed to heavy, hot ones.

 -  Take a cool shower or place a cold compress on your pulse points to cool down quickly.

 -  Spend time indoors in front of a fan or in an air-conditioned space when it’s extremely warm outside.

The Whitaker-Myers Team wants you and your family to have a fun and safe summer!
