The Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce awarded Whitaker-Myers Insurance Agency a Service Business of the year Award. Here is what they had to say:

Whitaker-Myers specializes in providing various types of insurance for their clients with a personal touch. With integrity, professionalism and passion for service they have actively supported the Ashland community through groups and organizations like the County-Wide Strategic Planning Committee, Prayer Matters, Lifeworx, Ashland County Young Life Committee and the Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio Board.

Scott Young and Chris Vanderzyden accepted this award on behalf of our agency. In accepting the award Scott noted that any company “is only as good as the people that work there” and he indicated that he was “blessed to work with a group of people that work hard for our clients and love our community.”

We,would also like to congratulate the other businesses and organizations on their awards and recognition. Let’s continue to strive to make Ashland a great community for our friends and family for years to come.

Straight out of the New Philadelphia High School Business Department, Ellen took her first job with Youngen Insurance Agency.  She attended Kent State University Tuscarawas County Campus for a few semesters while working full time before deciding to stay in the insurance business long term.  Ellen has over 18 years of experience in Personal Lines Insurance and has since worked in many other areas including Life Insurance and Commercial Insurance.  Ellen and her family moved to Wooster in 1992 when her husband, Rich, took a job with the Wooster City Schools., Ellen joined the Whitaker-Myers Insurance Group team in 1996 after taking some time off to raise her son, Nick.  She is currently our Whitaker-Myers Insurance Group Claims Coordinator.  Fortunately for us, Ellen finds this to be a very rewarding position, ever friendly and compassionate toward our clients while providing them with excellent service, during what is often a difficult time.  In addition to working with claims, Ellen is also a Client Service Agent for our physician and dentist clients, for whom we provide professional (malpratice) liability.

In her free time, Ellen loves to spend time with family and friends, walk, read, and travel.  She and Rich also spend many hours sailing on the Andre-Bella on Atwood Lake.  Their son, Nick, has recently married Molly and they are thrilled to finally have a daughter (in law) in the family.

We’d like to welcome Jason Young as the newest member of the Whitaker-Myers Team!

Jason is the son of Scott Young, Whitaker-Myers Insurance Group co-principal and practice manager/President of our Ashland operation.  Jason grew up in Wooster and graduated from Wooster High School in 2004.  After high school, Jason attended Ohio University where he received his BS degree with emphasis in Marketing, Management and Advertising.  While on campus, he was also involved in numerous campus organizations including the Ohio University Advertising Association, Phi Gamma Nu Professional Business Fraternity and the Ohio University Triathlon Team.  Jason also worked with and helped lead a team of students to the National Student Advertising Competition where they finished as the National Champions in 2008.  While in Athens Jason was also selected to participate in four internship programs ranging from New Business Development, Advertising, Marketing and Management.

After graduation Jason landed his ideal, first job in New York City at MediaVest Worldwide, a global media company headquartered in Manhattan.  While at MediaVest, Jason worked on the Bristol Meyer Squibb Biopharmaceutical account and later was honored with the responsibility for the Proctor and Gamble account, where his primary responsibilities were to create integrated and strategic digital marketing campaigns for Proctor and Gamble’s Healthcare brands.  He also planned and purchased online and mobile media for his clients while maintaining relationships with various digital entities.  After realizing his New York goal and gaining valuable experience, Jason recently decided to move back to Wooster and join Scott Allen, John McCord and his father in the insurance business at Whitaker-Myers.  Jason is thrilled to be back in Wooster and looks forward to earning new clients, meeting and working with valuable agency accounts, and becoming involved in the greater Wooster community.

We are proud to have Jason join the Whitaker-Myers family and become a part of the local community.  We anticipate that he will soon become be an invaluable asset to our professional team.  Welcome aboard, Jason!

If you have worked with Kris Swartz, you know first-hand that she is very knowledgeable, friendly and quick to help.  These qualities make her a valuable asset to our team.  This is a result of her underwriting background and 20-plus years here at Whitaker-Myers servicing our Commercial Clients.  In addition to her experience with our team, Kris had been a Commercial Underwriter for five years with Westfield Insurance.  Prior to her insurance industry work, Kris attended and graduated from BGSU with a Liberal Arts degree.  She then moved to Florida and worked as a social worker for the State of Florida for two years before returning to Ohio.  Upon her return, Kris was an Equal Opportunity Specialist for the Department of Education in Cleveland.  Kris has resided here in our Wayne County community for many years.  She and her husband have raised two sons, one of which recently graduated from the University of Akron and the other is a sophomore at Ohio University.  Kris enjoys reading, movies and sports in her free time.  We continue to be very thankful for her contribution to our firm and the fine service she provides our clients.  We’re glad Kris is a member of our professional team!

Lori Linder has been promoted from the Receptionist position to Commercial Lines Marketing & Account Placement, replacing Lesley Townsend who has decided to stay home to raise and enjoy baby Mia.  Best wishes to Lesley and her family!  Over the past several months Lori has not only been our friendly greeter when you call or come in, but has been learning the many varied aspects of Commercial Lines Insurance.  Lori is currently working on obtaining her Property and Casualty Insurance License and we look forward to having her on our CL Team!
