A mere sixty years ago it was still popular to safeguard insurance policies and other valuble papers in a “valuables box.” These boxes were fire-proof, might have contained a combination, key or similar lock, and often were just large enough to accommodate a small stack of tri-folded documents. “Back in the day,” the firm offered these boxes as gifts for clients’ use, in which to store their policies and other important papers.  In today’s semi-paperless world, such boxes are relics but they make great collectibles if you can still get your hands on one.  Pictured here is such a box from our very early 20th century days (circa 1910) when the firm’s Wooster office (the W.C. Myers side) was still located in the Citizen’s Bank Building on East Liberty Street and, both W.C. Myers himself and George Quinby were both still active proprietors. Today, as our year-long celebration commemorates 150-years of relationships and service to the communities and clients we’ve had the privilege of serving, we pause to consider each of you — clients, mentors, colleagues, carriers, insurance partners and friends — and how incredibly valuable you have been to our longevity and success. Indeed, you are, in a manner of speaking, part of the contents of the great Whitaker-Myers Group valuables box, without which we would not be proudly looking back on 150 great years.  So, thanks to you, what we’ve safeguarded inside this box of ours has done quite well.  And here we are: Whitaker-Myers Group, 1869-2019, celebrating 150-years of relationships.

In fact, we’re planning a 150th birthday party, a Clients & Friends Appreciation Day, in Wooster, for this summer (July).  A date, and details, to follow.  Happy Birthday, Whitaker-Myers!!
